The School

  • The faculty at the Taft School includes 67 men and 58 women, a total of 125 teachers. Consequently, there is a 5:1 student to teacher ratio.
  • Taft's student body is composed of 297 boys and 289 girls. Students come from 34 states and 26 countries.
  • The school year has two semesters, during which over 200 courses are offered, each worth 1 unit. Thirty-six academic units are required for graduation. In grades 9 and 10, the minimum course load is  ve major subjects; in grades 11 and 12, four major subjects.
  • Subject requirements: 8 units of English 6 units of one foreign language 6 units of mathematics 4 units of history or government 4 units of laboratory science 3 units of arts
  • Taft closely monitors the progress of its students. Every three weeks, teachers submit academic reports. Examinations are held at the end of each semester, and grades and teachers' reports are sent home four times per year.

  • There are eight dorms on the Taft Campus. There are 3 boys' dorms and 5 girls' dorms.

AP Course

  • Advanced Placement Program courses are offered in 29 subjects, including Mandarin Chinese, Spanish Literature, Spanish Language, French Literature, French Language, Latin, European History, American History, American Government, AB and BC Calculus, Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Environmental Science, Studio Art, Music Theory, Art History, English Literature, Economics, and Computer Science.
  • Nearly 90% of graduates take one or more AP exams with an average score of 4 out of a possible 5.
